Description

What is now Wouwersstraat was little more than an unpaved country road crossing the "Wauwersche Velden" around 1890. By 1913, several distinguished villas had been built along this historic road connecting 's-Gravenwezel to Den Botermelk, including the remarkable Eikendael Estate. Today, you enjoy the rare privilege of living just moments from the centre of 's-Gravenwezel, Delhaize supermarket, Somad lunch bar and the renowned Vogelenzang restaurant, while feeling completely surrounded by nature and tranquillity—a truly exceptional combination.

The history of this magnificent castle estate dates back to 1910–1913, when the Van de Werve Bosschaert family commissioned the construction of this impressive residence. The family's coat of arms, still displayed on the façade, bears witness to its noble heritage. Originally occupied by the Bosschaert–Van de Werve de Vorsselaer family, the estate later became home to Leonce Aloïs Van de Werve Gonzague. Between 2016 and 2019, the château underwent an exceptional renovation, combining timeless grandeur with state-of-the-art technology, including home automation, CCTV security and a sophisticated alarm system.

The ground floor welcomes you through an elegant entrance hall with guest toilet, utility room and cold storage, leading to the beautifully appointed kitchen featuring a generous island, dining area and iconic AGA cooker. A distinguished office overlooking the gardens, a refined drawing room and an elegant formal dining room complete this level. The semi-circular covered terrace provides the perfect setting for entertaining family, friends or business guests.

The former staff quarters in the basement have been transformed into an impressive leisure level with a lounge, man cave, hobby rooms, an outstanding wine cellar and extensive storage facilities. The upper floors offer numerous bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom and all accessible by lift. The master suite features a spectacular freestanding tin bath as its centrepiece. Additional rooms, a charming mezzanine attic and the separate concierge house—ideal for live-in family members, an au pair or guest accommodation—offer endless possibilities. The concierge house requires renovation.

Although Eikendael evokes the grandeur of a medieval castle, the warm use of timber and natural materials creates the welcoming atmosphere of an elegant English country house. Set within 107,000 m² of private parkland, the estate guarantees absolute peace and privacy. Woodland walking trails, sculpture gardens, meadows, a tennis court, pétanque court, koi pond and a large natural lake complete this extraordinary setting, where luxury and nature exist in perfect harmony.

The owners,

owner speaks out

Together with the family, we restored this unique historic estate into an even more refined and luxurious residence, fully adapted to contemporary standards. From the spacious patio, you enjoy magnificent views over the surrounding parkland and its inspiring sculpture garden, creating the feeling of strolling through your own open-air museum. Nature lovers will also appreciate the shaded woodland paths at the rear of the estate.

The wine cellar, the impressive library with adjoining office in the principal suite featuring switchable privacy glass, the lower-ground lounge and leisure area, and the characterful attic, now used as a playroom, all have their own distinct character. And, of course, the freestanding tin bathtub in the principal suite is a truly unforgettable centrepiece.
